Dan Mangan with Symphony NS Announced for 2012 – Band Submissions Still Open!

We are super stoked to announce that Dan Mangan is back by popular demand and will be performing with Symphony Nova Scotia as part of our 20th anniversary. The show is scheduled for Friday, October 19, 2012.

Band/Artist Submissions are still open so submit your act today to be a part of this historic festival year! All the info is below.

Band Submissions Still Open!

Halifax Pop Explosion (HPX) is still accepting submissions for our 20th Anniversary festival which takes place October 16-20, 2012. Artists wishing to perform can apply HERE. Early Bird submissions are $10.00 until February 03, 2012. Regular submissions are $15.00 from February 4th – May 21, 2012; which is the application deadline.

Highlighted by unforgettable performances from acts such as Thee Oh SeesStarsThe Thermals, and Chad VanGaalen, the 2011 Halifax Pop Explosion was the festival’s most successful and acclaimed year to date. Showcasing over 180 bands at 20 venues in front of more than 20,000+ fans and industry delegates, it was the perfect lead up to HPX’s 20th anniversary in 2012. The #POPular Conference is host to 3 days of exciting panels, debates, screenings and keynote discussions. Last year’s conference included sessions on merch, apps, venue/festival bookings, media, art, culture and technology along with cutting edge speakers Martin Atkins and Wendy Day.

This year… we want you!

Do you have an idea for/or want to present a panel, talk or topic for the #POPular Conference at Halifax Pop Explosion 2012? Now is your chance to get up on your soapbox and spread your hipness to attendees and industry delegates. Impart your wisdom, and you could be leading your own panel, workshop or breakout session at the 2012 #POPular Conference! Use our super easy #POPular Submission Form to let us know your idea! (Please note, we decided against calling it the #Popular Plucker- the best ideas might NOT be fostered at 2am). Topics and talks that cover music, media, culture, technology, development, innovation and more will all be considered.

Taco Time – HPX does SXSW

Halifax Pop Explosion is heading back down to Austin Texas for another year of South by Southwest and we are throwing a few parties while we’re in town to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.  Check out the Nova Scotia BBQ on Thursday March 15th and theHPX Showcase on Saturday March 17th (or St. Patrick’s Day for the rest of you), both at Canada House at Trinity Hall. Details below so if you’re in Austin come and visit.

The 20th annual Halifax Pop Explosion, being held October 16-20, 2012 in Halifax, is searching for a new Technical Director.

The successful applicant/company will take overall responsibility to oversee all technical requirements for the Halifax Pop Explosion with input from the Executive Director, Operations Manager and Event Coordinator.
