One down, Four to go! HPX Day 2

Wednesday October 19, 2011

What a night last night was! We ate birthday cake, saw great music and got to know one another after a year apart.  Were you there? Did you have fun?  Send us tweets @halifaxpopx or post up some photos on our Facebook page so we can share in the fun as we were working and didn’t get to experience the festivals opening night like you did.

Tonight we do it all over again with some new venues opening up to keep you jumping around…and for joy.  You may need to clone yourself to see it all but we’ve tried to schedule all the shows so you can make it to a few without missing any headliners or you can park it in one venue and watch all the bands.  You won’t be disappointed.

Check out The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at Olympic Hall, or go to see Thee Oh Sees at Reflections. At the world famous Seahorse Tavern we have Wildlife if you like to Rock and Company House has Kite Hill (members of Ohbijou) if you like to listen.  St. Matthews Church has Rich Aucoin with his 50-person choir followed by Born Gold (Gobble Gobble) at Gus Pub if you wanna get sweaty and dance.

Today is the first day of our early FREE shows in the CKDU Lobby with Cold Warps and Weekend Dads and if you’re into Hip Hop go see the Extremities with Relic at the Citadel Halifax Hotel.

We also heard there is a top-secret guest playing with the Town Heroes at the Carleton.  Follow the updates on twitter for late breaking details.  We promise it’ll be HUGE.

So there you have it. I’m tired already and its only hump day.  Loads more happening this week so put on some coffee and a pair of comfy shoes and remember that Halifax Pop Explosion is a marathon, not a sprint.

See you tonight.

Welcome to the Halifax Pop Explosion Day 1

Tuesday October 18, 2011

Well it’s been a busy year putting this together, and the day has finally arrived and what an opening day we have for you!  We’ve got some info in this newsletter that will help you navigate your way around opening night and make the most out of your HPX experience.

Box office opens at 11am at the Citadel Halifax Hotel at 1960 Brunswick Street.  The hotel will be the hub of HPX activities with daily FREE shows, poster art exhibit, receptions and conference sessions so come and visit us to pick up your pass and meet some new friends.

Box-office hours are 11am – 8pm.  ALL passes and wristbands must be picked up here.

Opening Reception our 19th birthday party starts at 6pm at the Citadel Halifax Hotel and is open to all who wish to attend.  We’ve got music from DJ James Reid, birthday cake and friends gathering to celebrate the 19th year of great music from Halifax Pop Explosion.  Come one come all and bring your sweet tooth.

Civic Garage Party featuring Zeds Dead, Keys N Krates and more is happening at the New Palace and if you didn’t score a free ticket from the Honda Facebook page come on down as your wristband/pass will get you in (subject to capacity).  The room looks amazing and will have Civics on display with prizes being given away to those who attend.

Braids and Ohbijou are playing at Reflections, which will be rad!  Make sure you bring two pieces of ID as per the venue policy. Check out DD/MM/YYYY at Gus Pub, which is their last show in Halifax and one of their last shows ever! If you’re into some sweet high energy Alt Country go to the Seahorse for One Hundred Dollars or go right next door to the Carelton for Bend the River.

So there is your first night.  Small but mighty with something for everyone.  Get out early, enjoy some killer music and start your Halifax Pop Explosion off with a bang.
