Final Fantasy’s Owen Pallett to be joined by Basia Bulat for a double album release show at St Matthew’s Church

Hot on the heels of an intense and genre bending performance with Symphony Nova Scotia during the Halifax Pop Explosion, Polaris Prize wining artist Final Fantasy returns to Halifax to celebrate the release of his new album.

Final Fantasy will perform Wednesday, February 10, with Basia Bulat at St Matthew’s United Church on Barrington Street, Halifax.

Both artists come bearing gifts. This is a double album release show, debuting Final Fantasy’s highly anticipated full length album, Heartland, as well as Basia’s new album, Heart of My Own.

Owen Pallett’s live violin-looping project was named Final Fantasy, in tribute to the melodramatic videogame series. Final Fantasy’s debut album Has A Good Home (Blocks/Tomlab) was released in April 2005. The sophomore album He Poos Clouds (Blocks/Tomlab) was written and arranged entirely for string quartet, and is a satirical song cycle based on the eight schools of magic according to Dungeons and Dragons.

The Village Voice praised it as having “the best lyrics of the year,” Pitchfork described it as “a joy to hear…this is, in a word, fierce—it can engage you on a level most albums can’t,” and many publications put it in their top-10 lists for the year. Canadian journalists voted and awarded it the inaugural Polaris Prize for best Canadian full-length album.

Basia Bulat released her first album Oh My Darling to national and international acclaim in 2007, resulting in signing to esteemed U.K. label Rough Trade and tours of Canada, the US, Japan, the U.K and Europe. Bulat garnered critical praise from media outlets worldwide for Oh, My Darling, including NPR who called her single “In The Night” one of last year’s best songs, and earned a Polaris Prize nomination in 2008.

Tickets for Final Fantasy with Basia Bulat are $20 advance, $25 at the door/day of show. Tickets go on sale Thursday, Nov. 26th at noon. Available through all Ticketpro outlets, by phone 1.888.311.9090, or online at www.ticketpro.ca
